CUP Announces John McGinlay as Boys DOC
& 2007-08 Coaches
Cincinnati United Premier (CUP) is honored to have assembled one of the most experienced and knowledgeable coaching staffs in the Midwest. We are proud to announce that John McGinlay has agreed to be CUP’s new Boys Director of Coaching. John holds his UEFA “B” coaching badge from the Scottish Football Association and is a former player for the Scotland National Team. He played professionally for several clubs in Europe; most recognized for his play for Bolton in English Premier League. Full News Release

Cup Red U18 Boys Capture State Cup - 3rd Straight Year!

The Cincinnati United Premier Red U18 Boys captured their third straight State Cup Championship by defeating the NCSL Eagles Blue 4-1 in the finals. After trailing 1-0 at halftime, Cup Red scored four unanswered goals in the second half to secure the victory. Pat McGrath scored the first on a cross from Austin Berry. After Cory Larkin ripped a shot off the top cross bar that came straight out, Aaron Osborne headed the ball to the back of the net for the second goal. Bryan Kanu scored the third goal on a head ball over the keeper’s hands and Matt Telting scored the final goal with a diving head ball off a cross from Jon Obial. See Full News Release

CUP Red U15 Boys Win John Talley Classic

This past weekend the U15 CUP Red Boys won the 2007 John Talley Classic. The team faced Owensboro United, BFC Sommers, CUP White, and Jackson FC in the finals and outscored their opponents 18-2 in the 4 games.

CUP Red U18 Boys Win 2006 adidas Disney Showcase Championship

The CUP Red U18 Boys coached by Terry Nicholl won the prestigious adidas Disney Soccer Showcase held at the Walt Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida from December 27-30, 2006.  The team won five consecutive games in route to the Championship outscoring opponents 12-2 and recording three shut-outs.

In their first match, Cup Red defeated the Match Fit Academy Arsenal from New Jersey 2-0 on goals by Austin Spohn and Aaron Osborne.  Austin hit a low shot to the corner and Aaron Osborne’s hit a left footed shot to the far side netting, reminiscent of his State Cup winning goal from 2005.  Ryan Dalton recorded the shut-out in goal.

Cup Red defeated GSA Phoenix Red from Georgia 3-0 in their second match on a header by Jon Obial off of a cross from Matt Telting; a Josh Albers goal and a break-away goal by Pat McGrath.  Scott Cacchiotti recorded the shut-out in goal.

In their third match, Cup Red defeated South Central Spartans, the Connecticut State Cup Champions, 3-1 on goals from Jon Obial and two from Corey Larkin.  The only goal allowed was off of a direct kick.

The team advanced to the semi-finals where they defeated PDA Vieira from New Jersey 2-1 in a hard-fought game.  Austin Berry scored first for the team by taking on and beating four defenders before beating the keeper on with a low shot to the corner.  PSA evened the match with a 20 yard shot mid-way through the second half.  Despite controlling play the remainder of the second half, CUP Red did not score the game-winning goal until three minutes remained in regulation on a Corey Larkin diving header off of a cross from Josh Albers. 

In the finals, CUP Red defeated USA Seventeen from California North 2-0 to capture the Championship.  Ryan Winkler scored off a deflected shot from Austin Berry to record the first goal and Pat McGrath scored the final goal.  Ryan Dalton notched is second shut-out of the tournament.

In three tournament appearances this fall, Cup Red U18 is 10-1-0 outscoring opponents 30-4 and recording 8 shut-outs.  Their only defeat came in the semi-finals of the Germantown Invitational Tournament losing in PK’s after the regulation and overtime ended in a 0-0 draw.  The team went 3-0-0 at the CASL Shootout in Raleigh defeating Texas Football Club 2-0; defeating Manhattan Thunder from New York 5-2; and defeating the Triangle FC Navy from North Carolina 3-0.  In the Germantown Invitational, CUP Red defeated the Memphis Kickers from Tennessee 2-0 and the SMYSA Storm Black from Georgia 6-0 before failing to advance in PK’s to fellow Ohio South team Eagles Blue. 

Cup Red U18 has enjoyed significant success since their inception at the U15 age group.  In addition to this adidas Disney Showcase Championship, they have won both the U16 and U17 Ohio South State Cup Championships, Tampa Bay Sun Bowl Championship, MRL Region 2 League Championship, went undefeated and did not allow a goal in the Blue Chip Showcase in Cincinnati at the U17 age group and won the John Talley Invitational two times.  They are currently ranked #28 in USA; #7 in Region 2 and #1 in Ohio South.  They have compiled an impressive 82-23-12 record since inception with 297 goals for, 101 goals against and 50 shut-outs in the 117 games.

The CUP Red U18 roster includes twenty players representing fifteen different high schools in Cincinnati.  Several players have already committed to college soccer programs and several other players are expected to commit in January.  Please see the roster for those players both committed and available at this time.

CUP U15 Red Wins CASL Shootout -- Champions Division

The Boys U15 Red team won the Champions Division of the CASL Shootout in Raleigh, North Carolina. Along the way they defeated CASL Premier 1-0, FC Richmond Magic 3-1, Augusta Arsenal Blue 3-2, and AFUSA Elite 4-1 in the final. Pictured are: Back Row -- John Kinder-Administrator, Jim Adams-Asst. CUP Boys U14 White Wins the United Cup

The Cincinnati United Premier Boys U-14 White Select Soccer Team ran over their competition with a “clean sheet” in the United Cup 2006 Soccer Tournament September 15th – 17th in Louisville, KY.  The CUP boys won four games, 5-0; 9-0; 4-0; and 1-0 in the final vs. local team, Sawyer YSA.

Starting goalkeeper, Cameron, “C.J.,” Washington, also managed to score two goals himself in game number two.  Captains for the tourney were Nick Deuel, Brady Eagan, and Max Riehemann.

Multiple goals were scored by:  Kenny Archbold, Jay Barnes, Michael Jervis, Ben Mikkelson, Evan Pfirrman, Phil Rawlins, and C.J. Washington.  Single goals were scored by Nick Deuel and Max Riehemann.  Kudos to defenders:  Brady Eagan, Ryan Goodhew, and Josh Halpin, a.k.a. CUP White’s “brick wall.”

The CUP U-14 White Team is coached by Jordan James of the Cincinnati Kings and Columbus Crew, MLS team. 

Coach Jordan’s “stars” were given to Nick Deuel, Brady Eagan, Michael Jervis, Max Riehemann, C.J. Washington and the defense, after the first three matches, and the whole team earned a “star” for the final match and for the whole tournament.
